The Annual Ride for Life First Responder Poker Run was held on July 13th, 2019 and hosted by Dirty Dogs Roadhouse in Golden. The run is in memory of all of the first responders in need of mental health and grief services and for suicide prevention. All proceeds for the run are put towards taking care of the mental wellness of first responders, and mental health services for first responders and their families. Golden Fire Department & The Shark from 103.5 The Fox were also on hand for the event. Firefighters Behavioral Health Alliance (FBHA) data shows that we lose a firefighter or EMS member every 2.9 days. In 2015 & 2016 there were more firefighter suicides than in the line of duty. FBHA is the only organization in the United States that tracks and validates this information. More info at Foundation 1023. Crisis Text Line: Text START to 741741 from anywhere in the USA, at any time, about any type of crisis, and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255. Additional information provided by Brandee Wharton, she rode in memory of of her father, Denver Fire Department Lieutenant & PIO A.A. “Tex” Wharton, who took his life in July of 1994. This years event raised over $6,000 so far for the Denver Firefighter Charitable Foundation and had a record 200 registered riders.
