Denver Fire Department held an officially acknowledge of the receipt of the $150,000 rail-car trainer (Haz-Mat Rollover Simulator) at Station 39 on August 28th, 2020. The rollover simulator was recently awarded through the FY2017 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Residual Funds Grant program, which is managed by the Denver Office of Emergency Management. The rail-car setup allows firefighters to train with a wide area of Haz-Mat spills including a setup as a rail-car carrying chemicals. Denver Fire Department Fire Chief Todd Bower with Commander CJ Haberkorn, Captain Greg Pixey, Captain Mike Pylar, Councilwoman Debbie Ortega and others were all were on hand for the event. The rail-car trailer will be managed by DFD and used as a shared training device for other fire departments in the North Central Region (North Central All-Hazards Emergency Management Region). This trailer, and the training developed by the DFD, supports the City and County of Denver’s Rail Emergency Response and Hazardous Materials Awareness Training through the Office of Emergency Management.
