On October 17th, 2020 at 17:28 South Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched by MetCom to an outside fire in the 12800 block of Roundup Rd. in unincorporated Douglas County. The response was upgraded by MetCom to an outbuilding fire after multiple callers reported a barn on fire on the property adding Rattlesnake Fire Protection District to the response. Engine 47 saw a black plume from Spring Creek Rd. and further upgraded the response to a confirmed residential structure fire based on reports that the fire was near the residence and the area not having hydrants which added Elizabeth Fire Rescue and Franktown Fire Protection District to the response. Engine 47 arrived on scene of a fully involved medium sized barn / garage with no houses threatened, started fire attack off of tank water, and setup to be supplied by the first due tender. Battalion 4 assumed command and advised of a long and narrow driveway and advised to keep all apparatus on the street to allow for tender access. Engine 42 was brought up to the scene to supply Engine 47 and help with making entry through the garage door. Tower 45’s crew carried saws to the scene to assist with making access through the garage door. Tender 251 arrived and setup to directly supply Engine 47. Engine 47 advised that there was a collapse interior of the structure with a sagging roof, shifting all operations to a defensive mode. Additional tenders and engines were used to refill Tender 251. The fire was brought under control and Tower 45 was brought up to use their aerial to assist with mopping up the fire. The barn had an unoccupied apartment unit in the upstairs and horses on the ground level were able to get out of the barn safely.
