Cheyenne Canyon Grass Fire

At approximately 13:00 on June 10th, 2021 Colorado Springs Fire Department and Broadmoor Fire Protection District responded to the area of Mesa Rd. and Evans Rd. for a grass fire. When en route, a second caller reported a smoke column from down the street at the local visitor center. On scene, Wildland 4 found approximately 1/4 of an acre of grass and light vegetation of fire, and pulled an attack line and established Mesa Command. Engine 611 and Engine 4 arrived and began to dig line around the fire. Battalion 1 arrived and assumed command, Wildland 4 officer assumed Lookout. Engine 2 and Brush 13 arrived and assisted crews with digging the line, while Engine 2 driver established water supply and connected a 3 inch supply from Engine 2 to Wildland 4. Once crews were able to get the fire knocked the reminder of the assignment, Engine 16, Brush 16, Brush 3, and Wildland 9, were returned to quarters. Crews remained on scene to finish mopping up the impacted area.
