Colorado Springs Structure Fire
At approximately 08:55 on December 16th, 2021 the Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to the 1500 block of Navajo Place for a possible structure fire. Once en route, dispatch advised the RP stated the home was fully engulfed and it was unknown if the residents were still inside. Truck 1 arrived on scene, upgraded the incident to a working structure fire, and advised all residents had been evacuated, and 2 cats were still trapped inside. Truck 1 established command, began a vertical vent, and instructed the 1st-in engine to pull a line for quick attack. Engine 4 arrived on scene and assumed command from Truck 1. Engine 4 pulled an 1 3/4 attack line to the Charlie side. Command then requested a 2nd line to go interior to protect the primary search team from Truck 1. Engine 1 arrived on scene and pulled the interior line to protect Truck 1. Truck 4 was able to control utilities, Battalion 1 then arrived and assumed command. Battalion 2 arrived and assumed the safety and accountability role and advised of a safety precaution for downed powerlines on the Charlie side. Command requested PD to enter to scene due to aggressive individuals at the command post and determined the fire under control. Crews then moved into the overhaul stage. Once PD made contact with the aggressive subjects they advised Code 4 and vacated the individuals from the command post. Once HazMat 14 arrived, they assumed safety and accountability and Battalion 2 established Charlie division. At 09:20 overhaul was discontinued due to a downed powerline and advised it would begin again once the line was de-energized. At 09:41 the secondary search was cleared and shortly after crews began to go in service. The fire is currently under investigation by the Colorado Springs Fire Department, Division of the Fire Marshal.
