Fort Collins Busch Court 2nd Alarm Fire
Poudre Second Alarm Fire
On August 24th, 2022 at 22:36 Poudre Fire Authority was dispatched to a possible house fire in the 1800 block of Busch Ct. in Fort Collins. Battalion 1 upgraded the response to a 2nd alarm while leaving the station based on descriptions of the flames, multiple calls to 911, and reports of the fire hitting nearby trees. Engine 3 arrived to a two-story single-family residential with a working fire and the two-car garage fully involved. Engine 3 pulled a attack line in for fire attack, Engine 1 secured the water supply and Tower 1 started the primary search. Battalion 1 arrived and assumed command and assigned Engine 4 to pull a 2nd line to the front door and check for extension. All occupants were able to exit on their own before responders arrived. There are no injuries reported. There were reports that a dog was potentially still inside, so firefighters extended their search until it was confirmed that the dog was safe at a neighbor’s home. There was little to no visibility inside the house and high heat, so crews created a vertical ventilation opening in the roof for smoke and heat to escape. This greatly improved the ability of responders to search and ensure everyone, including pets were out and safe. Firefighters had the flames knocked down within 15 minutes of arrival. They set up more ventilation and began searching for potential fire extension inside the home. The fire was just beginning to stretch through the garage door and into the entryway when firefighters stopped it. No fire extension was found inside the house. The home was saved but the family was temporarily displaced because of extensive smoke damage. Two firefighters were given the special assignment of retrieving some personal necessities for the resident. PFA works closely with the American Red Cross to provide resources for people impacted by emergencies like these. A fire investigator responded to the scene and began his investigation after air levels were safe. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
