Juanita Street 2nd Alarm Fire
At 15:10 on January 5th, 2022 Colorado Springs Fire Department was dispatched by the Colorado Springs 911 Communications Center to the area of E. Platte Ave. and N. Circle Drive for a possible structure fire. 63 (CSFD Training Captain) was in the area when the call came out and advised all incoming units there was heavy fire and smoke from the building, Battalion 2 then requested a working fire assignment. Before units were able to arrive on scene, several more calls came in regarding the fire, multiple reporting explosions coming from the area. A Colorado Springs Police Department traffic officer arrived on scene and advised units several forklifts and a box truck in front of the building appeared to be on fire, and that hazardous materials were possibly fueling the fire. Nine minutes into the incident with all hands working, command requested a 2nd alarm assignment to respond. Shortly after crews declared the fire under control after the fire had spread to the building, and the 2nd alarm assignment was canceled. Twenty minutes into the incident command requested a hazmat complement be assigned to mitigate the oil running off from the fire. Once the overhaul stage was completed investigators moved into the building to start their investigation. Two people were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation; the fire is under investigation by the Colorado Springs Fire Department, Division of the Fire Marshal (DFM).
