Pueblo County Brush Fire

Just before 15:00 on March 15th, 2023 Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center dispatched Pueblo County Sheriff Emergency Services Bureau (ESB) Fire Team to the 3600 block of Verde Rd. on a brush fire. The 911 caller reported a controlled burn had got away from them and it’s current size was unknown. As crews began responding smoke was able to be seen from several miles away. Pueblo County RT11 was close by when the call came in and arrived on scene first. He sized up a 5 to 7 acre brush fire spreading to the north at a slow rate with a flaming front on the head. The fire was burning in flashy fuels and not threatening any homes despite the gusty winds. Command was transferred to Delta 27 as he arrived on scene and crews began to do fire control with hand tools until the first brush truck arrived. Once on scene crews were able to stop the forward progression of the fire quickly. Crews remained on scene for several hours mopping up hot spots in some downed cottonwood trees. Overall the fire burned approximately 18 to 20 acres. Additional information provided by Code 4 Photography
