At 00:33 on April 7th, 2024, the Colorado Springs Public Safety Communications Center dispatched the Colorado Springs Fire Department to the 2000 block of Airport Rd. for a possible structure fire. While enroute, dispatch advised the reporting party stating animals are trapped and powerlines fell on the house. Engine 23 arrived on scene to a single-story single-family wood frame residence, smoke and fire was showing from the Bravo side. Engine 23 established a water supply and pulled an attack line for offensive fire attack. Engine 8 arrived and pulled a secondary attack line from Engine 23. Truck 8 assigned to ventilation and primary search. Truck 1 was assigned RIC (Rapid Intervention Crew). Battalion Chief 2 arrived and assumed Airport Command. Engine 23 reported fire was starting to spread to Charlie side and had water on the fire at 00:41. While Truck 8 was conducting ventilation they rescued a dog and cat from the structure and reported the fire seemed to only be exterior at that time, only moderate smoke inside. At 12:45 Engine 23 advised minor extension into the ceiling and that fire was under control. At 12:48 units not on scene were canceled. At 01:00 Command requested a brush truck respond to the scene to bring additional Class A foam. Shortly after Brush 5’s arrived with the additional foam, units returned to service. One patient was treated on scene for minor smoke inhalation, no injuries were reported by responders. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Colorado Springs Fire Department, Division of the Fire Marshal.
