Colorado Springs Structure Fire
At 15:45 on August 30th, 2024 the Colorado Springs Public Safety Communications Center dispatched the Colorado Springs Fire Department to the 4200 block of Forrest Hill Rd. for a possible structure fire with explosions. While Engine 9 was leaving their quarters, they reported a header of smoke and upgraded the incident to a working fire. Engine 9 arrived to a two-story wood-frame six plex outside-in fire, Engine 9 established a water supply and Forrest Hill Command. Truck 9 arrived and began ventilation and conducted a primary search; Engine 9 discovered their hydrant was out of service, so Engine 18 established a second water supply and began interior attack. While Truck 9 was interior and advised all companies there was hoarder conditions in the primary structure. Engine 2 arrived and split their crew; 2 personnel to Interim RIC and 2 personnel to assist interior attack. HazMat 14 arrived and assumed Safety and Accountability, while Truck 1 advanced into the attic space to check for extension. Heavy Rescue 17 established RIC and relieved 2 of Engine 2’s personnel to take over Engine 9’s interior line so they could swap SCBA bottles. Truck 1 confirmed the fire extended into the attic space and that Engine 9 was getting a knock from the interior. Engine 18 updated Command, that they got a good knock down on the exterior fire. Engine 9 swapped bottles and then conducted a secondary primary of the structure. Once the main bodies of fire were knocked down, crews began overhaul and searching for hotspots. At 16:45 Command requested a brush truck respond with a one-person crew to bring foam to the incident. Once the fire was called under control the scene was handed over to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, Division of the Fire Marshal to investigate.
