Colorado Springs 2nd Alarm Fire
At approximately 20:45 on July 12th, 2024 the Colorado Springs Public Safety Communications Center dispatched the Colorado Springs Fire Department and Broadmoor Fire Protection District to the 70 block of Haney Rd. for a possible structure fire. As Engine 4 was leaving their station, they reported smoke and flames visible from several blocks away and immediately upgraded the incident to a working fire. Engine 4 arrived and advised all incoming units the duplex was well involved with fire and Engine 4 began setting up their deluge and pulled a 2 1/2 attack line for fire attack. Truck 4 was instructed to pull in-front of the structure and prepare for aerial ops, at this time Engine 4 also requested a 2nd alarm. Engine 4 conducted a 360 of the building and received a verbal confirmation that all occupants had evacuated. Engine 13 arrived and established a secondary water supply, while Truck 1 Ladders pulled a secondary attack line from Engine 4 and Truck 1 Irons conducted a primary search of the Bravo structure, and Truck 4 Irons conducted a primary search of the alpha structure. Engine 1 arrived and was assigned as Bravo division, to assist with Engine 4. After Engine 13 established a water supply, they pulled an additional line off of Engine 4 for fire attack. Truck 8 arrived on scene and established Interim R.I.C. At 20:59 Engine 4 reported they were able to get a good knock down on the main body of fire, they were moving into the 2nd floor and attic space. Engine 13 advised all companies that the deck on the delta side was near collapse and to avoid the deck. Engine 23 arrived and established Staging Group Supervisor, Hazmat 14 arrived soon after and established Safety and Accountability Group. Engine 611 established a water supply and began to knock down the Charlie exposure of the Alpha structure. Engine 23, Stage Group Supervisor, reported they had a victim walk-up requesting medical. Medic 46 also reported a victim had walked up to them, Command then requested 2 additional ambulances respond Code 3 to the scene. Medic 34 was directed to Engine 23’s patient and Medic 54 was directed to stage at Haney and Woodburn for potential patients. Squad 21 arrived, established Rehab Group, and began to cycle crews through rehab. Crews were able to get knock down of all active fire at 21:55; Engine 5, Engine 23, & Truck 9 were then cleared to return to service. Special Ops 52 then observed active fire on the second floor of the bravo structure with their drone and Truck 1 was assigned to mitigate the body of fire. Command officially called the fire under control at 22:44 and crews began to break down equipment. There was a patient transported to an area hospital for minor injuries, the fire is under investigation by the Colorado Springs Fire Department, Division of the Fire Marshal.
