The Denver Fire Department Drone program showcased the future of advance firefighting to 5280Fire on June 29th, 2024 during the annual Hell Night training at the Denver Fire Training Center. The Drone Program was established five years ago after receiving a grant, and today they have trained and licensed seven drone pilots to be able to fly 24/7. The drones can fly in the rain and in the wind up to 45 miles per hour and the cold and heat is not effected. Assistant superintendent of fire alarm at the Denver Fire Department, Chief Todd Bruin demonstrated how the drones are utilized during incidents which would include structure fires, wildland fires, swift water rescues, high angle rescues, search and rescues or any other incidents that would need help in the sky. The video feed also can be displayed in real time to monitors to dispatchers, command on scene and firefighters to help with the mission that offer multiple modes including infrared, thermal imaging to pinpoint hotspots in a fire and also can take pictures on the fly. The feed is also sent to the fire department’s specialized response vehicles which are AST-01, AST-02, AST-03 and the Command Post EM-50, which is also shown here in the photos with the radio communications for hell night.
