On September 16th, 2024 around 11:00 Larimer County Sheriff’s Office received 911 calls reporting smoke in the area of Crystal Lakes. Crystal Lakes Volunteer Fire Department and Red Feather Lakes Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the area where they located a fire around five miles northwest of Red Feather Lakes. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services initially took command and ordered mutual-aid from surrounding fire departments. The USDA Forest Service took over command at 06:00 on September 17th, 2024. The fire is at 128 acres as of September 22nd, 2024 with 90% containment.
