Just before 15:30 on August 12th, 2024 Pueblo West Fire Department was dispatched to a smoke investigation near the 1200 block of Greenway Ave. A single caller reported black smoke visible but couldn’t tell from where due to a hill obstructing the view. A minute later Pueblo Fire Department was sent to the area of Pueblo Blvd and Medal of Honor Blvd on a report of smoke as well visible to the southwest of that location. Engine 37 responded and could see a black column but determined the fire was well west of their district and either in unincorporated Pueblo County or Pueblo West. Pueblo West District 1 responded to liberty point to attempt to get eyes on the fire. After some time of trying to get a good vantage point it was determined to be in the southern part of the Pueblo Motorsports Park and Pueblo County Sheriff Emergency Services Bureau (ESB) Fire Team was dispatched. The first deputy on scene found a fully involved mini van with minimal spread to the adjacent vegetation. He used an extinguisher to keep it from spreading further. Crews made access to the off road area with two type 6 engines as well as a type 3 engine. A tender was also staged nearby for water supply should there have been any spread requiring more water. The fire was quickly extinguished and the vehicle was a complete loss.

Units on Scene: Brush 161, Brush 163, Engine 131 & Tender 192
