Manitou Springs Volunteer Fire Department (MSVFD), founded in 1879 covering 6 square miles in El Paso County (Colorado) including the areas of Cave of the Winds, Cliff Dwellings, Crystal Valley, Garden of the Gods-South, Miramont Castle, Mt. Manitou Springs Volunteer Fire Department originally started out in 1879 as the Manitou Fire Company No 1. In 1881 the name was changed to the W.A. Bell (WAB) Hose & Hook & ladder Company No. 1. A second fire company was formed on December 31, 1892 in the west part of the town and named The Jerome B. Wheeler Hose, Hook and Ladder Company No. 2.
