Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District (CRFPD), founded in 1953 covering 320 square miles in Garfield, Gunnison, Mesa & Pitkin Counties including the towns and areas of Alpine Park, Aspen Glen, Aspen Mesa Estates, Avalanche Creek, Catherine, Cattle Creek, Crystal River, East Creek, Hawk Creek, Hawk Ridge, Hayes Creek, Kiggin, Kings Park, Kline Creek, Lead King Basin, Lewis Lake, Los Adobes, Marble, McClure Pass, Minera Park, Missouri Heights, Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, McClure Pass, Mount Sopris, Mulford, Panorama Ranches, Pinyon Peaks, Placita, Preshana Farms, Ranch at Roaring Fork, Redstone, Red Hill, Red Table Acres, River Valley Ranch, Roaring Fork River, Silver Creek Trail, Sopris Park, Spring Gulch, Spring Valley, Sutank, Thompson Creek, Thompson Holland Cabin, Valley View, Van Rand, West Bank Ranch, West Elk Loop Scenic Byway, White River National Forest & Wooden Deer.

Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District is dispatched by Garfield County Emergency Communications Authority and Pitkin County Regional Emergency Dispatch Center.
