Spanish Peaks EMS (SPEMS), services 1,500 square miles of Huerfano County including the communities of Walsenburg, Gardner, La Veta, and Cuchara. Founded in 1980 as Huerfano County EMS, was renamed Spanish Peaks EMS in 2019. SPEMS staffs a total for 4 ALS ambulances with a staff for 25 member 24/7.
