BLM Southwest District Interagency Fire Unit

The SouthWest District Interagency Fire & Aviation Management Unit (SWDFAMU) provides a full range of fire management services to participating federal, state and local jurisdictions in SouthWestern Colorado. The fire unit is comprised of the Uncompahgre and Gunnison Field Offices of the Bureau of Land Management, and the Grand Mesa Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests. The unit cooperates with state agencies, local communities, and fire departments on a wide range of activities including fuels treatments, fire prevention, and suppression.

Encompassing over 15 Million acres of land managed by participating Federal agencies and private lands, the SouthWest District Interagency Fire and Aviation Unit serves Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, La Plata, Montrose, Ouray, San Miguel, Counties. Durango Interagency Fire Dispatch provides support for about 4.5 million acres of land in Southwestern Colorado, extending from the Utah state line on the west, the continental divide to the east, the New Mexico state line to the south, and the boundary with the Montrose Dispatch Center to the north. Elevation ranges from 5,000 feet to over 14,000 feet. BLM supports lands managed by the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and US Park Service.

SouthWest Colorado Interagency Fire and Aviation Unit is dispatched by the Montrose Interagency Dispatch Center and Durango Interagency Dispatch Center.
