Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), covering 1883 square miles in Miami-Dade County (Florida) including Aventura, Coral Reef, Cutler Bay, Florida City, Haulover, Hialeah Gardens, Homestead, Interama, Kendall, Kendall – Miami Executive Airport, North Bay Village, Key Biscayne, Miami Gardens, Miami International Airport, Miami Lakes, Miami Shores, Model Cities, Modello, Opa-Locka Airport, Pinecrest, Princeton, Suniland, Sunny Isles Beach, Sweetwater, Virginia Gardens & West Little River.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), originally began in 1935 as a “fire patrol” founded in 1935 consisting of only one employee and one truck under the direction of the Agriculture Department. The patrol grew rapidly and in 1957 the department had 51 employees, 10 stations and 12 pieces of apparatus. In 1965 the Metropolitan Dade County Fire Department (MDFD) and or Metro-Dade Fire Rescue was created. A medical rescue service program was implemented in 1973, and the name was changed to Metropolitan Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR).
