Cloquet Area Fire District (CAFD), covering 275 square miles in Carlton & Saint Louis Counties (Minnesota) including the areas of Brevator, Carson Park, Cloquet, Dunlop Island Park, First Lake, Fond du Lac Band, Hilltop Park, Lake Superior Chippewa, Mahnomen, Mission Creek, Perch Lake, Scanlon, Saint Louis River, Simian Lake & Thomson.

Cloquet Area Fire District was originally formed on March 14th, 1888 as the Cloquet Fire Company No. 1, a fully paid department. Perch Lake Township was the first to partner with the City of Cloquet, enacting a joint powers agreement in 2008 as the initial phase to create the CAFD.

On January st, 2009 the City of Cloquet and Perch Lake Township officially transferred the administration of their respective fire departments to a joint governing board, and the Cloquet Area Fire District (CAFD) was created. On January 1st, 2011, the City of Scanlon Fire Department joined the District and on January 1st, 2019 the Brevator Township joined the District.
