Inver Grove Heights Fire Department

Inver Grove Heights Fire Department (IGHFD), covering 32 square miles in Dakota County including the areas of Inter Grove Village (Minnesota) including the areas of Arbor Pointe, Inver Grove, Inver Hills, Marcott Woods, McGroarty Park, North Valley Park, Salem Hills, Simley Island, Skyview Park, South Valley Park & Woodlyn Heights.

Originally fire protection for Inver Grove Village was provided by South St. Paul Fire Department and fire protection for Inver Grove Township was provided by the Mendota Heights Fire Department. In late 1956, the Inver Grove Village Fire Department was formed, and South Grove Fire Department formed in 1957. Inver Grove Village and Inver Grove Township merged into the city of Inver Grove Heights in 1965, and both fire departments merged into a single city department. The start date of the present Inver Grove Heights Fire Department is considered to be formed in 1957, the date when the South Grove Fire Department was officially incorporated.
