Red Wing Fire Department (RWFD), covering 64.5 square miles in Goodhue County including the areas of Anderson Center, Anderson Park, Aspen Falls, Barn Buff, Bay Point, Cannon River, Cannon View, Cowpath, Highwoods Trail, Levee Park, Mississippi River, Oakwood, Pine Valley, Pottery Pond Park, Prairie Island Indian Community, Sandy Lane Park, Sorins Bluff, Spring Creek, Red Wing, Red Wing Bay & Wacouta.
Red Wing Fire Department Ambulance covers 262 square miles including Diamond Bluff (Wisconsin), Hager City (Wisconsin), Prairie Island Indian Community, Red Wing, Village of Bay City (Wisconsin), Wacouta & Welch.
Red Wing Fire Department was organized in 1857 as The Protection Hook & Ladder Company Number 1, and reorganized in 1858 as the Torrent Engine Company Number 1, and disbanded in 1865 because they were unable to obtain an engine. Throughout the 1860’s, several companies were organized including Cataract Hose Company Number 1 in 1865, the Niagara Engine Company Number 2 in 1865, Red Wing Hose Company Number 1 in 1873, the Champion Extinguisher Company in 1875, and Phoenix Hook and Ladder Company Number 4 in 1881. In 1883 Athletic Hose Company Number 2 was formed. In 1885 the Red Wing Fire Department was reorganized.
