St. Louis Fire Department (STLFD), founded in 1857 and covering 62 square miles in Greater St. Louis Metropolitan Area (Missouri) including the areas of Baden, Benton Park, Boulevard Heights, Carondelet, Cheltenham, Dutchtown, Fountian Park, Gate District, Grand Center, Hamilton Heights, Hi-Pointe, Hyde Park, Kosciusko, Mark Twain, Midtown, Near North Riverfront, North Riverfront, Patch, Penrose, Princeton Heights, Skinker DeBaliviere, Southwest Garden, St. Louis Hills, St. Louis Lambert International Airport, St. Louis Place, Tower Grove East & Walnut Park East

St. Louis Fire Department was originally created with several volunteer fire departments including the Central Fire Company No. 1 (1832-1859), Union Fire Company No. 2 (1832-1855), Washington Fire Company No. 3 (1833-1857) , St. Louis Fire Company No. 4 (1839-1859), Missouri Fire Company No. 5 (1839-1858), Liberty Fire Company No. 6 (18411858), Phoenix Fire Company No. 7 (1843-1858), Franklin Fire Company No. 8 (1844-1858), Mound Fire Company No. 9 (1847-1857), Laclede Fire Company No. 10 (1848-1858), Lafayette Hook & Ladder No. 1 (1854-1858) and Good Will Fire Company No. 11, which was only in existence for only a few months. In 1857 the St. Louis Fire Department became an all paid department with many of the volunteer fire companies joining.
