Milton-Freewater Rural Fire Department

Milton-Freewater Rural Fire Department & EMS (MFRFD), established in 1982 and covering 325 square miles in Umatilla County (Oregon) including the areas of Blue Mountains, Cobb, Columbia River, Crockett, Ferndale, Greenwater Park, Snake River, Sunnyside, Walla Walla River & Walla Walla Valley.

Milton-Freewater Rural Fire Department specialties is Heli-base crash/rescue and communications, and have developed a program in which the department supply C/R engines and personnel trained as EMTs and airport C/R to remote Heli-base and retardant sites throughout the Western States. Also set up and maintain portable communication centers at these sites. This greatly improves safety at these sites by promoting better communication air to ground, better communication from the site to IC, better control of flight patterns. Quieter environment for radio operations, more organized paperwork, onsite training for Heli-base/retardant crews, on site EMTs for emergency medical problems, AFFF foam equipment to deal with crashes and/or fire, medical equipment to extend onsite supplies.
