Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) (Portland Fire Bureau), covering 151 square miles in Multnomah County (Oregon) including the towns and areas of Alameda, Alberta, Argay, Arlington Heights, Belmont, Burlingame, Eastbank, Forest Heights, Gateway, Goose Hollow, Hawthorne, Hayden Island, Hazelwood, Hillsdale, Hillside, Hollywood District, Irvington, Kenton, Lents, Lloyd, Maywood Park, Mill Park, Mount Tabor, Multnomah Village, Old Town, Overlook, Parkrose, Peral, Portland State University, Portsmouth, Powellhurst, Rockwood, Rose Quarter, Sellwood, St. Johns, Swan Island, Sylvan, University Park, Woodstock.
Portland Fire & Rescue originally started out in 1850 as the Pioneer Fire Engine Company No. 1. In 1854 the Portland Fire Department was established. In 1857, Vigilance Hook & Ladder Company No. 1, Multnomah Engine Company No. 2 and the Willamette Engine Company No. 1 joined the department. In 1859 the Columbia Engine Company joined. In 1883 the Portland Fire Bureau was created. In 1988 the named changed to the Portland Bureau of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services.
