Grapevine Fire Department (GFD), located in Tarrant County (Texas) including areas in Bear Creek Park, Big Bear Creek, Cluck Park, Creekwood, Cross Creek, Denton Creek, Dove Creek, Dove Loop, Grapevine Lane, Grapevine Mills, Grapevine Ranch, Grapevine Recreational Area, Great Wolf Lodge, Horseshoe, Horseshoe Trail, Lakeview Park, Meadowmere Park, Mustang, Paradise Springs, Parr Park, Pickering Park, Rolling Ridge, Silver Lake Marina, Southlake, Stonebridge Oaks, Timberline, Trail Lake, Wildflower Butterfly Habitat, Wildwood & Wildwood Creek.
Grapevine Fire Department was originally established in 1884 as the Grapevine Fire Company. In May of 1907, V. M. Washam is appointed as Fire Chief of the 13 member all volunteer “Bucket Brigade.” In 1917 the first major piece of firefighting equipment is authorized for purchase for $300. Purchased is an REO Speedwagon truck with soda and acid tanks, and is Grapevine’s first motorized fire truck. In 1921 the Grapevine Fire Department is chartered with the State of Texas. In 1949 the department becomes a charter member of the Tarrant County Volunteer Fire Fighters Association, enabling neighboring cities to combine resources and to provide a county-wide radio system.
