South King Fire & Rescue

South King Fire & Rescue (SKFR), covering 41 square miles in King County (Washington State) including the areas of Alderbrook Park, Barnes Creek, Bingaman Pond, Buenna, Celebration Park, Des Moines, Enterprise, Federal Way, Fishers Pond, Five Mile Lake, Green River, Highland College, Island, Kitts Corner, Lake Dolioff, Lake Easter, Lakegrove, Lakeland North, Lakeland South, Lakota, May Lake, McSorley Creek, Midway, Mirror Lake, Nautilus, North Lake, Olympicview, Panther Lake, Peasley Canyon, Poverty Bay, Powellswood Garden, Redondo, Saghalie Park, Saltwater State Park, Saghalie Park, Sherwood Forest, Silver Lake, Star Lake, Steel Lake, Troit Lake, Twin Lakes, West Hylebos Wetlands Park, Westway Field, Woodmont Beach & Zenith.

South King Fire & Rescue was formed in 1949 as the King County Fire District 39 (Lakeland Fire Department). In 1967 the King County Fire Protection District 22 (Steel Lake Fire Department – Federal Way Fire Department) (1944-1967) merged into the district and became the Federal Way Fire Department. King County Fire District 30 (Midway Fire Department, Star Lake Fire Department, Woodmont Fire Department) (1947-1980) merged in 1980. King County Fire District 32 (Redondo Fire Department – Mirror Lake Fire Department) (1947-1972) merged into the Federal Way Fire district in 1972. In 2006 the King County Fire District Number 26 (Des Moines Fire Department – Zenith Fire Department) (1945-2005) merged into the Federal Way Fire Department and the name was changed to the South King Fire & Rescue.
