2nd Alarm Structure Fire

On November 16th, 2025 at 01:34 the Colorado Springs Public Safety Communications Center dispatched the Colorado Springs Fire Department to a reported structure fire at the Montecito Apartments on E. Pikes Peak Ave. Initial reports were that fire was coming from the second floor of an apartment building. Engine 8 arrived within three minutes to find heavy fire coming from a second-story unit, threatening the third floor and attic. Firefighters immediately began searching for victims, evacuating residents, and attacking the fire. A 2nd alarm was called due to the size of the complex and the potential for additional victims. One victim had been pulled from the building by another tenant prior to our arrival and was quickly treated and transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Firefighters located a second victim, who was unconscious, inside the fire unit and brought them out to safety; they were also transported in critical condition. Additionally, crews rescued four people, including two young children using ladders to remove them from upper-level apartments. There were also five people on scene treated and released for minor smoke inhalation. The fire was brought under control approximately 45 minutes after arrival. An estimated 50 residents were displaced due to significant smoke damage throughout the building.
