On May 22nd, 2025 Crawford Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire in town, reportedly started by a candle that had fallen over. Engine 1 was first on scene, initiating an attack from the north side via Fir Ave. Shortly after, Engine 6 arrived on Elm Ave. to attack from the south. While attempting to engage pump operations on Engine 6, a mechanical failure caused the truck to roll unattended into the nearby cemetery, where it struck a tree and overturned, no one was inside the vehicle at the time. One firefighter was injured by an attached hose line during the incident. EMS responded immediately, and mutual-aid was requested from Hotchkiss Fire Protection District, which arrived promptly to help contain the blaze. Amid the challenges, our team was able to rescue four kittens from the structure. Information provided by Crawford Volunteer Fire Department
