Colorado State Patrol Trooper Zachariah Templeton was honored when hundreds of law, fire and other first responders from across the state and beyond came out to his funeral at the Lifebridge Christian Church in Longmont on October 19th, 2007. Templeton and another trooper had stopped in the median of I-76, near 96th Ave. in Commerce City on October 11th, 2007, to help a man reload two plastic farm chemical tanks that had fallen off a trailer. As they were loading the containers, a vehicle heading east left the roadway and struck both troopers. They were both taken to Denver Health where Templeton succumbed to his injuries the following day on October 12th, 2007. The other trooper suffered serious injuries. The driver was sentenced to two years probation after pleading down to a charge of careless driving resulting in death. Templeton had served with the Colorado State Patrol for four years and was assigned to the 1-D Troop in Adams County. Zac was 27 years-old and survived by his 3-year-old daughter.
