On August 24th, 2013 CSP Trooper Scott Rendfrey was investigating a traffic crash on Hwy. 85 near Fort Lupton in Weld County. The patrol car, a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria was parked in the left lane with its emergency lights activated. Martin Braden with C & J Towing was assisting with the crash.  Just after 12:55 a white Ford pickup collided with the rear of the patrol car, and continued past and struck Mr. Braden while he was cleaning up debris from the previous crash. Mr. Braden tragically died on the scene. Trooper Rendfrey was seated in the driver’s seat of the patrol car, sustained serious but non-threatening injuries. It was later discovered that the driver of the pickup was distracted while searching for tissue in the cab of his truck. Witnesses told investigators that the driver of the pickup did not apply the brakes or take any action to avoid the collision. Information provided by CSP.
