Hundreds of firefighters from around the Denver metro area joined with thousands of their colleagues across the country over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend to help “Fill the Boot” for MDA. Firefighters hit the streets in force to collect donations from pedestrians, motorists and other passers-by in an effort to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The Muscular Dystrophy Association is the world’s leading nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular diseases. Since taking up the MDA cause nationwide in 1954, firefighters have raised nearly $375 million for MDA’s lifesaving research, services and information programs. Over the weekend, 5280Fire caught up with firefighters from Adams County, Arvada, Aurora, Cunningham, Denver, Federal Heights, North Metro, Sable Altura, Westminster and Wheat Ridge.
