4th Street Multiple Structure Fire

At 18:15 on June 24th, 2018 Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a structure assignment for a downtown response on reports of a working fire along the west side of 4th St. between Ute and Pitkin Ave. Truck 1 was first on scene at 18:20 and declared a working fire with multiple structures involved. Truck 1 initiated attack with second in engine with back up. Units coordinated a defensive attack to prevent the fire from spreading to other occupied structures. Command declared the fire extinguished at 20:52. Grand Junction Police Department shut down Ute Ave. from 5th St. and shut down 4th St. as crews worked. Five structures were involved in the fire, 2 residential structures were considered a complete loss, and a 3rd with significant exterior damage. Two outbuildings were destroyed as well. A broken gas line free flowed while ignited in the backyard of one of the structures. Crews were unable to shut off the gas line due to meter valve failure. The Grand Junction Regional Communication Center provided IDT Operations on the scene with 2 dispatchers. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.
