The Lake Christine Fire started July 3rd, 2018 one mile northwest of Basalt. The fire is still burning with strong driven winds in the White River National Forest.

As of July 25th the fire is 39% contained and has burned 11,878 acres.  Crews on the northwest flank will continue to reinforce direct containment line and to bring indirect line to the north and northeast. They have strengthened and completed indirect line on the northwest flank and are prepared to conduct firing operations to remove fuels between this line and the fire’s edge. Helicopters will be using the batch retardant plant today working with ground crews to increase the precision of their retardant placement.

Along the northern flank of the fire, heavy equipment is being brought in to construct line and grind the lighter fuels ahead of the fire. Bulldozers will be used directly on the fire’s active edge to bring line to the north on the west edge of the cabins along Cattle Creek/FS 509. Firefighters will use indirect lines on the northwest to slow the fire’s northern growth.
