Chaffee County Recovery
At 09:00 hours on May 28th, 2018 Colorado 4×4 Rescue and Recovery was contacted by a private party needing assistance with vehicle recovery from an event occurring 24 hours before. A team consisting of 11 members was formed in an hour for a scheduled recovery the next morning in the Four Mile Area of Chaffee County. The requesting party had rolled his Jeep and trailer off the side of the trail rolling approximately 1.25 times and sliding, coming to rest approximately 70 feet down a 50 degree slope at approximately 9,500 feet. Driver reported injuries on the day of roll over, was transported by EMS, received services and later was released by the Emergency Dept. Chaffee County Sheriff office was notified of team arriving on scene and that road would be blocked. Weather was consistently warm and dry. Team arrived on scene with 7 winched units utilizing approximately 500 feet of winch line, extensions and safety straps, three pulley blocks, Kinetic ropes and traction boards. The team was on scene for approximately 11 hours. Numerous winches were utilized to control rolling first the trailer, then Jeep, to their wheels, each being raised to the road surface independently. Vehicle and trailer were each assessed for travel and issues were addressed. Roll over scene was cleaned and mitigated for both solid and liquid contamination. Jeep and trailer were transported to the trail-head. Recovery completed at 2110 hours. Chaffee County Sheriff notified scene was cleared and recovery complete.
