At approximately 11:55 on May 2nd, 2019 Colorado Springs Fire Department was dispatched by the Colorado Springs Public Safety Communications Center to the intersection of E. Platte Ave. and N. Academy Blvd. for a reported motor vehicle collision. On scene, AMR Medic 78 reported a party was pinned in the vehicle. Truck 8 then requested a working trapped assignment. Truck 8 arrived and established command. Once Engine 8 arrived, Truck 8 and Engine 8 began to extricate the patient. The patient was extricated at 12:06 and Rescue 17 was canceled, Battalion 2 then requested a second AMR ambulance to the scene. Medic 78 transported the patient to an area hospital, and Medic 7 arrived on scene and transported a second patient, both with unknown injuries. Companies began to go in service at 12:35 and left the scene to the Colorado Springs Police Department for investigation.
