Colorado Springs Shed Fire

At approximately 08:10 on December 29th, 2019 Colorado Springs Public Safety Communications Center dispatched Colorado Springs Fire Department to a possible structure fire in the 2100 block of Saranac Dr. Once the first-in battalion, Battalion 2, left quarters had seen a smoke column and upgraded the call to a working fire. When all units called en route, dispatch advised there was two sheds on fire and there were possibly propane tanks inside the shed. Once Engine 8 arrived on scene they reported a propane tank had exploded and quickly established a water supply and pulled a main 1¾ attack line to the primary shed. Battalion 2 then arrived on scene establishing Saranac Command. While Truck 8 evacuated the surrounding structures and Squad 8 pulled a backup line off Engine 8 to the neighboring shed. Engine 8 reported the fire was knocked down and the working fire assignment was canceled at 08:19. Truck 1 was assigned to be on stand-by on the Charlie Side. Engine 1 was assigned Safety and Accountability. Truck 8 was later reassigned to assist Engine 8 with overhaul. Truck 1 was reassigned to assist Squad 8 with overhaul on the Delta Side. At 08:30 units began to be released starting unit with Engine 1 and then Truck 1. Engine 8, Squad 8, Truck 8 remained on scene for extended overhaul. Battalion 2 then went back into service transferring command to Truck 8 officer. At 09:54 the fire ground channel was released and the scene was left to the fire investigators. The fire is currently under investigation.
