Colorado Springs Structure Fire
At 12:54 on July 1st, 2019 Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to the 2500 block of Verde Dr. for a possible structure fire. En route Colorado Springs Public Safety Communications Center advised all units the RP reported heavy black smoke in their apartment. Engine 8 arrived on scene and reported nothing showing with evacuation. At 12:59, Engine 8 reported a working fire in the kitchen. Battalion 2 established Verde Command. Truck 1 and Truck 8 arrived and was assigned to search and rescue and Engine 11 supplied water to Engine 8. Engine 8 had the main body of fire knocked down and started overhaul. During overhaul Engine 8 rescued a dog from the third level apartment and the dog was treated for smoke inhalation by Squad 7. Engine 13 was assigned to assist Truck 1 with search and rescue, while Truck 4 was assigned to ventilation. An all-clear for the primary and secondary searches for the 2nd and 3rd floor. Rescue 17 arrived and was shortly released. Truck 1 and Engine 13 advised primary and secondary of the 1st floor was clear. At approximately 14:00, units slowly began to be released. Fire investigators went into service at approximately 15:30. The fire is currently under investigation.
