Decker Fire

The Decker Fire started on September 8th, 2019, 2 miles south of Salida, in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness. As of October 14th, 2019 the fire has burned 8,959 acres. Crews continue to work to contain spot fires along the eastern flank of the fire using a combination of hand and aerial ignitions in addition to direct and indirect tactics. Structure protection, evacuations, and pre-evacuations will remain in effect for those communities north east and southeast of the fire area including the communities of Swissvale, Wellsville, Silverheels and Howard.
