Colorado Springs Second Alarm

At approximately 15:43 on January 14th, 2020 Colorado Springs Fire Department was dispatched by Colorado Springs Public Safety Communications Center to 315 W. Bijou St. at the abandoned Denny’s restaurant for a possible structure fire. Once Truck 1 left their station they reported a large header and upgrade the call to a working fire. Truck 1 arrived and advised heavy black smoke showing and requested police for traffic control. Engine 3 arrived and assigned to grab a hydrant and report to the Charlie side, while Engine 2 secure the water supply on the south side of the fire. Engine 3 pulled a 2 1/2 line for attack, Truck 9 was assigned to the Charlie side with Engine 3, and Truck 9 was assigned RIC team. Command then requested a 2nd Alarm. Truck 1 was able to gain access to the fire for a primary search. Battalion 3 arrived and assumed command. Engine 3 was able to knock the main body of fire, and once Truck 1 performed a primary search, all crews were ordered out of the building and fire attack changed from offensive to defensive. Squad 8 arrived and was assigned as rehab and Engine 1 assigned safety and accountability. Engine 3 was assigned to overhaul and Truck 4 was assigned to be on deck on the Alpha-Bravo corner. Once Engine 9 arrived they were assigned staging area manager, Battalion 1 was assigned as Bravo Division supervisor, and Rescue 17 arrived and assumed RIC from Truck 9. Truck 1 was assigned as roof division and knock any hotspots and cut inspection holes. At 16:09 Bravo Division called the fire under control, Truck 4 was assigned to make entry and evaluate the interior of the building, and Truck 9 was release and then quickly reassigned to another possible structure fire. Engine 9 was also released do to being the only unit in staging. At 16:30 command began to slowly release the second alarm assignment and as well as the working and initial responses. At 17:36 command was released and all units were released. The fire is currently under investigation.

Initial Response: Battalion 3, Engine 3, Engine 2, Truck 1 & Truck 9

Working Fire Assignment: Battalion 2, Engine 1, Rescue 17, Squad 8

Special Call: 73(PIO/EMS Liaison), 52(PIO), X-Ray 193 & X-Ray 197

2nd Alarm Assignment: Battalion 1, Battalion 4 (Canceled), Engine 9, Truck 4, Air 15 (Canceled), MCOM 1 (Canceled) & Brush 22 (Canceled)
