Grand Junction Brush Fire

At 14:06 on March 18th, 2021 Grand Junction Regional Communication Center dispatched Grand Junction Fire Department Truck 6 to a weed fire in the area of 26 1/2 Rd. and H Rd. Truck 6 swapped units and staffed Brush 6 for the assignment. Brush 6 arrived in the area and located an out-of-control brush fire to north of the Grandview Care Lodge, 815 26 1/2 Rd. The fire was sized up as a one-acre, moderate rate of spread nearing structures. Brush 6 requested the next due engine company for structure protection. Brush 6 began attack the head of the fire to west, preventing it from reaching houses. Battalion 1 and Chief 6 self-dispatched to assist. Engine 3 arrived on scene and began attacking the east flank of the fire burning near the road. Chief 6 arrived and positioned for traffic control and incident overview. Battalion 1 arrived and assumed command from the care center parking lot. An additional brush unit was requested to assist knocking down the fire before it reached houses. Brush 4 arrived and began working with Brush 6 to contain the north-west and west sides of the fire. The fire was held to a few acres without structure compromise.
