On January 30th, 2021 Mile High Hook & Ladder Club with 5280Fire hosted a 14th birthday parade for Toby who has been battling cancer since he was 2 years-old. Mile High Hook & Ladder brought out several rigs for the parade along with Sable Altura Fire Rescue. Then in an emotional moment for the crew, they (along with their department K9 companions “Autumn” and “Koda”) presented a few department-related gifts, and then pinned Toby, making him an honorary Captain of their department. From Fire Chief Rich Solomon, “We know, and understand the cancer fight. From our staff members battles, as well as feeling the tremendous weight of the losses of our Brothers and Sisters in other agencies, we recognize the courage it takes to fight that disease. It’s one that our Fire Service is taking head on. Yet, to face that battle every day of your young life, I’m not sure too many of us have the strength and courage that Toby, and so many like him, exhibit on a daily basis.”
