
Lakewood South Balsam Street 2nd Alarm
West Metro Second Alarm
At 04:27 on February 11th, 2022 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a possible structure fire at the Brookdale Meridian Lakewood Senior Living, 1805 S. Balsam St. in Lakewood. Engine 8 arrived to a working fire from a large three-story senior living facility with flames through the roof, started exterior fire attack and the primary search with Tower 8 deploying the ladder for roof ops. District 2 arrived and assumed command on the Alpha side, and a 2nd alarm was requested at 04:33 with heavy fire conditions. Engine 3 supplied Tower 8 with the water supply, and Medic 2 and Medic 7 assigned medical. Engine 7 and Engine 4 arrived and assisted with primary search. Rescue 10 assisted with the FDC to Engine 8 and then started primary search. Command requested 4 additional medics to the scene. Firefighters rescued one resident and their pet bird from the 3rd floor. Engine 1 arrived and assigned to the 2nd floor for search with Tower 2. The fire was put under control at 05:22 and then crews started an extended overhaul and investigation. Several units are uninhabitable and those residents will be relocated. One patient was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Additional information was provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
