West Metro Attic Fire

On December 18th, 2022 at 21:50 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a possible structure fire in the 6800 block of W. 11th Ave. in Lakewood. Crews arrived to light smoke showing. Jeffcom advised that 911 reporting smell smoke and a black area appeared on the ceiling. SAM 1 arrived to a large two-story single-family home with nothing showing and started the investigation. Upon investigation crews found a smoky haze evident inside the home with an active fire in the attic. Engine 1 arrived and pulled a pre-connect for fire attack with Medic 1 and Medic 11. Engine 2 secured the water supply and Tower 2 assisted with fire attack. District 1 arrived and assumed command with a working attic fire in the offensive strategy with an all clear of the structure. Command requested a additional medic to the scene. Crews pulled down part of the ceiling to get to the fire. The residents all got out without injury. One firefighter had minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. West Metro investigator reported that the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction.
