On June 8th, 2022 at 19:19 South Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a home near E. Wildcat Reserve Pkwy and Poston Pkwy in Littleton, because a resident saw a fire in their neighbor’s backyard. Initial 9-1-1 callers thought the fire was coming from a grill and could be extending towards the home. The first arriving firefighters saw smoke coming from the back of the house and were quick to pull hose lines. The safety officer found heat signatures coming from the lower windows, indicating that the fire was coming from the basement. Crews found that the fire was well-established and had burned through the first floor. The truck company from Tower18 utilized the VEIS (Vent-Enter-Isolate-Search) technique and searched the second floor and confirmed that all residents were out of the home. Additionally, a police officer from Douglas County Sheriff’s Office had rescued the homeowners’ dog upon arrival. No injuries were reported. With much of the first floor compromised, crews were limited in their access to extinguish the fire. Fortunately, firefighters overcame this challenge with multiple hose lines and the fire was quickly placed under control. An extensive overhaul had the firefighters working for a couple of additional hours. The Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the exact cause of the fire.
