At 09:11 on March 13th, 2022 the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center dispatched Grand Junction Fire Department Battalion Chief 1 and a residential fire compliment to a report of a structure fire at the intersection of 9th St. and Belford Ave. for a deck on fire. Further information indicated a dumpster fire extending into a large vacant structure in the 900 block of Belford Ave. behind the furniture store on N. Avenue. Battalion 1 arrived on scene sizing up a medium-size two-story commercial structure with an active fire on the side of the building with fire extending into the attic from a large dumpster. Belford Command was established and a commercial fire compliment was requested. Truck 1 arrived and pulled a line for fire attack in the alleyway between Belford Avenue and North Avenue, Engine 3 arrived and supplied Truck 1 with their tank water. Truck 1 made knockdown on the exterior of the structure and postponed water on the dumpster until a positive water supply could be established and transitioned to forcing entry into the structure. Truck 6 arrived on scene and brought in the hydrant from 9th and Belford to attack the dumpster. Crews pulled a second line to attack the fire chasing the inside of the wall leading up to the soffit from the exterior. Engine 2 arrived on the scene and reported to the Alpha Side as the on-deck crew. At 09:12 the interior crew reported a knockdown on the fire. Truck 6 established a water supply and reported to the Alpha side on deck with Engine 2 and Engine 4. Crews performed an extensive overhaul to ensure the fire was knocked down. The contents of the dumpster and structure were related to the furniture and mattress store nearby. The fire is under investigation by the Grand Junction Fire Department and Grand Junction Police Department.
