South Adams Ice Rescue Training Day 1
Annual Ice Rescue Training Day 1
South Adams County Fire Department and Northglenn Ambulance conducted their annual Ice Rescue Refresher Training at Reunion Pond on E. 104th Ave. on January 31st, 2022. Crews rotated through from 09:00 to approximately 15:00 hours.
Each crew responded to a report of a vehicle into the ice in Reunion Pond on the west side of Reunion Rec Center. The first due engine was dispatched for the scenario with their second due engine having a two-minute delay. Northglenn Ambulance provided an ambulance for each scenario to allow crews to train together. On arrival, crews found a small passenger car that drove into the lake and was possibly submerged. A 17-year old male victim was visible on arrival in the middle of the lake and had fallen through the ice while trying to run across the lake to call 911 at the rec center. Upon further investigation crews would locate an additional adult female victim in the front seat of the car with a diabetic issue and an additional patient in the back seat. All three patients were removed and transported to local medical centers by NGA. Crews were able to perform additional rescues as time permitted between sessions.
