Annual Awards Ceremony

Arvada Fire Protection District held their annual Awards Ceremony for the year 2022 on January 31st, 2023 at the Storyline Church, 14605 W. 64th Ave. in Arvada. The ceremony featured the Arvada Fire Honor Guard, Pipe and Drum band, a bell ceremony, and the following awards: Firefighter of the Year: Lt. Derrick Varela. Employee of the Year: Matt Boyd. Lt. Jim Schaefer Award: Lt. Matt Berland. Schaefer Scholarship: Dylan Espinosa. 35 Years of Service: Capt. Mike Kulp and Lt. Scott Stringham. 30 Years of Service: Capt. Todd Hill. 25 Years of Service: Ben Ackerman, Lt. Matt Berland, Lt. Brendon Dougherty, Scott Long and Capt. Tim Piel. Individual Awards: Jon Garcia and Craig Adams. Unit Awards: Water Rescue-Rescue 52 and Medic 52; Structure Fire-Engine 51; Medical Response-Rescue 52 and Medic 52. Meritorious Service: Arvada Police Department, Colorado Sergeant Josh Mazone, Officer Matt Duffey. Group Awards: Radio Workgroup, Community Risk Reduction section. Phoenix Award for the successful resuscitate a patient in cardiac arrest: 10 qualifying incidents, 54 members honored. 20 Years of Service: Wyatt Koeniger, Josh Schairer, Shane Sims. 15 Years of Service: Bryce Segovia, Tracy Vitale. 10 Years of Service: 19 members. Citizen’s Awards: Andy Flood, Jim Black. West Metro Fire Rescue, Fairmount Fire Protection District, and Westminster Fire Department for provided mutual-aid coverage, allowing a few of Arvada Fire in-service crews to attend the ceremony and receive awards.
