At 08:17 on February 2nd, 2023 Arvada Fire Protection District was dispatched to a water and ice rescue on Garrison Lake off W. 51st Ave. and Garrison St. at the Four Acre Lake Park. A dog had gone swimming in the pond and was unable to return to shore when its owner jumped in after it. They both were having a difficult time in the cold, icy water. As crews arrived on scene, the person and dog were pulled to shore by a citizen and Arvada Police Department officers with a rope. The person was cold but was treated and released on scene without injuries. The rest of the water response was cancelled. One rescue swimmer entered the ice to retrieve a leash and belongings before any one would be tempted to go after it. The ponds and ice in our region can be dangerous, so stay off the ice and leash pets around ponds. If you see a pet or a person fall through ice, do not attempt to rescue them yourself. Call 911, stay on shore, and wait for first responders. Additional information provided by Arvada Fire Protection District
