Loveland Tech Rescue
On April 18th, 2023 at 17:35 Loveland Emergency Communications Center (LECC) (200) dispatched Loveland Fire Rescue Authority Engine 47 and Thompson Valley EMS Paramedic 321 responded to a medical emergency along Hwy. 34 in the narrows section of the Big Thompson Canyon. Engine 47 arrived on scene and was met by the 911 caller who reported an injured hiker approximately 150 yards up the Alexander Mountain Trail. Engine 47 assumed IC and upgraded the incident to a rope rescue response. Firefighters and medics hiked in to access the patient, the patient was non-ambulatory with a lower leg injury. Battalion 41 arrived on scene and command was transferred to him. The officer of Rescue 42 was assigned as the Rescue Group Supervisor. Medics treated the patient while rescue personnel prepared the patient for the carry out operation. A low angle rope rescue system was used for the initial decent followed by utilizing the aerial tower from Tower 46 for the final segment of the rescue. The rescue was complete at 19:29.
